The 3-Series Carbon Brush Motor

Before attempting to clean or replace a carbon brush, it is important to disconnect the machine, remove any covers or panels, and wear protective gear. Brushes are easily damaged, especially by dust and grease, which can jam spring-loading mechanisms or disrupt contact between the commutator and the brush. The carbon brush can also be worn down by excessive friction or heat, and the commutator may be damaged or pitted. Once the brushes are properly cleaned, they can be inserted into their holders and connected to the commutator.
